Use Spanish Language Skills
"I was actually pretty nervous in the beginning…[but the Latino families] were extremely welcoming and were pleased that I am studying Spanish and also looking to go into nursing, as nearly every one of them had had communication problems with health care providers at one time or another."

"Through my time in the program, I learned several interesting things about Hispanic culture. The strong interest in herbal teas and other home remedies for themselves and for their children was especially interesting, as was the common desire to not be wasteful of food. In the group conversations I learned that, unlike in the U.S., in Mexico there is very little CPR education, and that child car seats are rare. I also learned some basic phone etiquette and became better at speaking Spanish without relying on any visual cues."
