Birth To Three FAQs
Q: Why do people need help with parenting? Doesn’t it come naturally?
A: For most new parents, a baby changes life dramatically. Most parents want to do a good job raising their children, yet not all parents know how or have the support they need. New parents may feel isolated and frustrated about their abilities or just want to share the excitement of the daily changes in their lives with someone who understands. Parenting is the most important, challenging, and rewarding job most people will ever have and positive parenting skills can be learned. Most parents find it very helpful to become part of a supportive Birth To Three group where they can learn about child development and share information with other new parents. As an added bonus, most Birth To Three groups remain friends for years! In a recent Birth To Three survey, 100 percent of the parents who participated said they would recommend Birth To Three to a friend, and 97 percent said it helped them become a better parent.
Q: Are there Birth To Three organizations all over the country?
A: No, there’s only one Birth To Three, a grassroots organization
that began in the Eugene-Springfield community in 1978, and we have
not expanded our services outside of Lane County. However, our curriculum
is used at more than 600 sites in the U.S. and in several foreign
countries.
Q: How many families does Birth To Three serve?
A: Every year close to 1,000 local families in Lane County, Oregon,
participate in Birth To Three parenting groups and an additional
4,000 people are touched by Birth To Three’s other programs
and services. Throughout the country—and the world—other
organizations use Birth To Three curricula and reach thousands more
families.
