2010 Champion of Children is Fran Curtis
(Eugene, Ore.; March 6, 2010) – Longtime Eugene volunteer Fran Curtis has been named Birth To Three’s 2010 Champion of Children for her years of service to the non-profit and to the larger community. She was honored at the Cirque de Famille fundraiser on Friday, March 5, at Valley River Inn.
In 1979, Curtis joined a Birth To Three parenting group led by the agency’s co-founder and executive director, Minalee Saks. Curtis has volunteered for Birth To Three for 30 years. Her service includes board membership, board committee work and three years as president of the board. She also used her professional experience as a pediatric nurse to help Birth To Three groups and was a home visitor for its Welcome Baby program.
Curtis earned United Way of Lane County’s Volunteer of the Year Award in 2003 and has also volunteered with the Lane Community College Foundation and the Festival of Trees.
For more than 30 years, Birth To Three has provided parenting education in the Lane County, Oregon area. Nearly 90,000 parents and children have been served. Birth To Three’s vision is that every child will be nurtured by loving, skilled parents.
